Oksigenia

Who is behind it? Behind these projects is Oksigenia, a small software engineering company. We sustain ourselves with paid services and custom development — we have to eat — but we also believe in free software, and that is why we publish several projects as contributions to the FOSS ecosystem, with no "freemium" model and no paywalled features. The team is very small (a single person behind the code in most cases).

What do we publish as free software? The most visible project right now is Oksigenia SOS, an Android app (GPL-3.0) available on F-Droid and IzzyOnDroid, designed for people doing outdoor activities in areas with limited coverage or alone. It detects falls and, if the user does not respond, automatically sends an SMS with GPS coordinates to a previously configured contact. It works without Internet, without accounts, without telemetry, and without dependencies on Google services. It supports 11 languages and 7 sport profiles (hiking, mountaineering, trail running / MTB, paragliding, kayaking, equitation, and professional use).

We also publish free WordPress plugins (no paid "Pro" versions) and other small tools as they come up. The intention is to keep growing the free catalogue over time.

Why open-source and free of commercial commitments? Because we believe certain kinds of software — especially anything that touches personal safety or privacy — should be available without conditions for anyone who needs it. Privacy and autonomy are part of the design, not an add-on or a sales pitch.

What are donations used for? To cover the costs of developing and maintaining the free projects: domains, testing hardware (fall detection algorithms, for example, are calibrated on real devices), tools, and — above all — the time spent updating the software, maintaining translations, field-validating new releases, and responding to the community. If any of the projects have been useful to you, any contribution helps us keep publishing free, open-source software with no commercial commitments.
