End to end encryption efforts are fragmented. The sophisticated applications focus on chat, whether individual or group (both endorsed!), while others handle photos (not endorsed) or files in the cloud (not endorsed).

I'm working on converge, a framework and distributed protocol for securely synchronizing and distributing changeable data.

It is designed to carry all sorts of data, from short text messages to video, from rapidly changing multiple-access databases to append-only archives. It works best with existing relationships, designed for connections between friends, family, colleagues, and collaborators, rather than unknown computers on the internet (though there's nothing prohibiting that).

With Converge we can bring our data back into our own hands, provide control over on where we can use it and who is capable of reading it. Converge applications run locally, and communicate by synchronizing state over converge rather than connecting to each other or a cloud service. Cloud providers still have a place in this story, but that place is providing backup and temporary storage, without being able to read your data that they should merely be storing.

The first real application will be a distributed file system - for storing, accessing, and editing files from multiple devices. This will build up a number of important libraries - especially the distributed database - enabling more interactive applications as time goes on.
